To the Olympic games in London, where 6 days of competition are now in the books. China slowed its gold medal-winning pace, but still benefited from a traditionally-strong performance in table tennis. Zhang Jike takes table tennis gold World number one Zhang Jike took the gold in an all-Chinese men’s table tennis final, bringing China half-way to another gold-medal sweep in its national sport. The 24-year-old pre-tournament favourite beat his compatriot Wang Hao 4-1.Wang has now lost three straight Olympics singles finals. Zhang is only the fourth man to win the table tennis grand slam…an Olympic gold following the 2011 world championships and the table tennis World Cup. Phelps wins 200m IM American swimming star, Michael Phelps finally won his first individual gold medal of the London Olympics. He topped rival Ryan Lochte to defend his 200 metre individual medley title. Phelps led all the way through each of the four strokes. He also became the first man to win three straight Olympic titles. Tyler Clary grabs men’s 200m backstroke American swimmer Lochte lost to another top rival in the men’s 200 meter backstroke final. First-time US Olpympican Tyler Clary took an exciting final-stroke gold medal Thursday. Lochte was the overwhelming favorite and led at every turn, but faded on the last lap.
