A How To Guide To Enjoy Working Out & PGA Championship Fun

By admin

If you visited yesterday, you saw that Dan and I enjoyed the day out on the golf course. But not just any golf course, the Ocean Course at Kiawah, at the PGA Championship.

While that’s clearly BIG news, let’s get down to business first. Then PGA fun!

If You Don’t Like It Then You’re Not Going To Do It!

That cartoon cracks me up! :)

I can’t tell you how many times I hear “I almost didn’t workout today.” or “it took everything I had to get to the gym.”

My question is why?

Why do we drag our feet as if we have cement inside our workout shoes and try to make every excuse possible to skip out? Seriously, have you ever stopped and wondered about it? I am just as guilty as anyone else. There are days when it takes everything inside of me to get moving.

But on those days, you would hear me ask myself… “whats the deal, you know that when it’s done you’ll feel great!”

That’s why I don’t get people’s distaste for working out. 99.9% of the time, at the end of a workout you feel awesome, you feel energized, and you feel proud. With all those “oh so good feelings” why would you ever want to skip out of a workout?

Here are my tips for getting pumped up for a workout! To make the idea of your program actually fun. Because let’f ace it, if you don’t think it’s fun then you’ll never stick to it.

But first watch this video I made on making excuses… just as important as all five tips below!

1. Make it a hobbyout. No one likes the term “work”. I was recently told that if you love what you do, then it’s not work, its a hobby (that you get paid for). That’s how exercise should be too. Hearing the word “work”out before or after you actually go to work immediately congers up bad feelings. So change it. Call it “hobby”out. What do you think? Go get your hobbyout done! Hum, not sure if that will be added to the Webster anytime soon.

2. Imagine the ending. Like I do, instead of thinking about the getting started part, think about how you’ll feel at the end. Just that should have you pumped up.

3. Do something (and like it). Maybe you just really don’t want to workout, that’s fine. But do something. Maybe that means going for a bike ride, playing a serious game of frisbee (that’s what we do) or just walking the neighborhood. Do something that you enjoy do and will still give you the feelings of accomplishment. Exercise doesn’t always have to mean lifting weights, doing lunges or running for miles.

4. Just Do It. Regularly. It takes 21 days to form a habit and only 7 to break it. Sucks, right? When you’re first getting into the whole workout world, you’re going to be sore, you’re going to realize how out of shape you are and you’re going to probably disappoint yourself because of it. Who cares?

You’re never too out of shape to exercise! Suck it up for a month and after that time it becomes a natural part of your life, something that you look forward to. Like lunch or new episodes of your fav sitcom.

5. Keep your eye on the prize. Why do you want to workout in the first place? Lose weight? Improve your health? Tone up? Get stronger? Keep up with the kiddos? Feel sexy for your husband? Complete a 5K? There are so many reasons, but whatever yours is, remind yourself of it EVERY day! Several times a day in fact. And find a way to track your progress. Journaling, logging workouts, etc. Some way that you can see that your efforts are working. I workout simply because I love challenging myself, I love being in shape, and I love getting off my ass.

Those are 5 ways to start looking at exercise with a more positive outlook. Instead of “beer goggles” maybe exercise should have “sweat goggles”. I don’t know where I was going with that, but you get the point.

Keep it fun, that’s what is crucial and that is what is going to make the prize yours!

PGA Fun

Bright and early Dan and I jumped in the car and drove 25 minutes out to Kiawah to cash in our Christmas present from 2010: tickets to the PGA Championship! Traffic wasn’t near as bad as we thought it would be so we ended up getting there around 7:30am.

Kiawah is one of my favorite places around, as we took the shuttle from the parking lot to the Ocean Course, we starred out the window picking out our dream house. Never heard of Kiawah? It’s a luxury vacation/residential island known for it’s extravagant homes and gorgeous “back to nature” views.

Once at the course, we starred at each other, trying to figure out what to do. Should we walk the course and follow along a few groups players or should we park our tushies at one hole and watch each group come through?

We decided to walk at first to get a feel for the holes. Of course I got hungry quickly so we stopped and grabbed two waters and two apples… $ 9 later I ate my most expensive small apple to see it was bruised and not so tasty. It tasted like the apples that give out at cafeterias. Fail.

We kept walking until we came upon one particular group: Adam Scott. He’s my golf crush and I was (and still am) upset I wasn’t allowed to take any pictures of the players. Boo. But I will say, he was just as cute in person!

We watched a few more guys… Ricky Fowlers looked like he should be kicked off the golf course for us unkept nasty appearance. That’s my opinion anyway.

Then it was time for lunch. $ 30 later, Dan had a 6 inch turkey sub and a Mic Ultra, I had a salad and tried a gluten-free beer.

I really liked the Redbridge. It was a bit sweeter than normal beer which was why I liked it, not so bitter.

Then we changed things up. There were some great players yet to tee off, so we went and planted ourselves at the 1st hole to watch them warm-up and get started.

Of course the hight light was seeing Tiger. He didn’t acknowledge anyone, you could tell he was focused in on the day. Rory also came out, he freaking did awesome during his warm-up but apparently didn’t do so well out on the course.

After that we decided that 7 hours was long enough and we headed back home.

Dan and I both decided while it was a cool experience, we both like watching golf more on the television. You get to see how everyone is doing and keep up with the tournament. Both of which are impossible being there in person.

So for the rest of the weekend, that’s what we’ll be doing!

What’s your favorite sport to watch live?

Football is hands down the best sporting event to be at. The chaos of the crowd, the lunatic fans, and the game itself always makes for a fun time. I can’t wait to head up to Clemson this year for my first live game with Dan!

What’s on the agenda for the weekend?
